Halfway between San Marco and Rialto, looking out over the rio (a Venetian canal) that gives it water and the campiello (small square) that gives it air, San Luca is one of the oldest parishes in Venice: it was founded in the 11th century by the Dandolo and Pizzamano families, in Veneto-Byzantine form with three naves, at a strategic point in the city’s trade.
