Stop in Campo dei Mori, in Cannaregio: a small square among old houses, marked by the memory of one family. The Mastelli, merchants whom the chronicles say came from the Morea, had homes and a fondaco (a Venetian trading warehouse) here. Their surname itself became a story: people said it came from the mastelli, the tubs full of coins the family supposedly owned.
