Behind the square’s grand theatre lies its backstage: a quiet campiello (small square) on the rio di Santa Maria Formosa (a Venetian canal). Here the church shows its second, classically styled façade, dating from 1542, with a statue of General Vincenzo Cappello above the tomb. The Baroque bell tower rises over the square.
