In the campo (square) that bears its name stands one of Venice’s best-loved churches, so much so that Venetians simply call it ’la Formosa’. Legend has it that Bishop San Magno, in a vision, saw the Virgin in the guise of a ’formosa’ woman — not slender, but full and buxom — and decided to dedicate a church to her here: one of the eight that tradition attributes to him in the lagoon of the 7th century.
