Calle Varisco holds a record: at 53 centimetres it is the narrowest calle (a Venetian street) in Venice, and one of the narrowest in Europe. Some thirty metres between two walls that almost touch shoulders, ending at a small overhang on the canal. The name comes from the Varisco family, silk merchants who came from Bergamo in the 15th century and declared houses in this district in 1566 and 1582.
