On 15 June 1310 Venice nearly changed masters. The conspirators of Bajamonte Tiepolo, Marco Querini and Badoero Badoer were descending towards Piazza San Marco in three columns, determined to bring down Doge Pietro Gradenigo, and one of those columns passed right through here, along the Merceria. From a window above this arch a woman let her mortar fall.
