Here you are walking over a canal. ’Rio terà’ in Venetian means exactly this: a filled-in rio, covered and turned into a street. Calle Rio Terrà Rampani, in the San Polo sestiere a stone’s throw from Rialto, follows the course of the old Rio de le Carampane, which flowed here until the 19th century.
