The Ponte de la Saponela crosses the rio di San Giobbe (a rio is a small canal) in the heart of the fondamenta of the same name, a step from Andrea Tirali’s Ponte dei Tre Archi (1688). The name does not come from soap, as one might think, but from a family that lived here: the ’Descrizione della Contrada di San Geremia’ of 1713 records near this bridge a Francesco Saponello, a confrere of the Misericordia.
