The Ponte di Sacca crosses the rio (a small canal) della Madonna dell’Orto at the northern edge of Cannaregio, between Corte Vecchia and the fondamenta (canalside walkway) named after Cardinal Gasparo Contarini. It is a stone bridge with a brick structure and brick bands. It takes its name from the Sacca della Misericordia, the broad stretch of water opening out towards the lagoon, where timber rafts from the rivers of Cadore used to gather.
