On the Grand Canal, a stone’s throw from the Accademia, this imposing rusticated façade is one of Baldassare Longhena’s first independent works. Around 1630, the owner, Giovanni Lolin, wanted the 15th-century Gothic palace rebuilt. The young architect, later to design Santa Maria della Salute, added Doric, Ionic and Corinthian pilasters in the manner of Scamozzi and Serlio, while preserving the pointed shape of the original windows.
