Everyone stops to look up at the statues. But the real surprise on this façade is almost at eye level: on the plinths of the first tier, instead of plain marble blocks, six fortified cities are carved in relief. Zara, Candia, Padua, Rome, Corfu and Spalato, each identified by name.
