The Fondamenta di San Biagio occupies the northern shore of the Giudecca, facing the canal towards the Stazione Marittima and the harbour warehouses. The name recalls the church and monastery of Santi Biagio e Cataldo that stood here: the blessed Giuliana Collalto founded them in the 13th century for the Benedictine nuns, on the site of a hospice for Holy Land pilgrims where an older church had been consecrated as early as 1188.
