A sottoportico (covered passage) in the side of Corte dei Specchieri slips into one of the oldest and least touched corners of the district: Corte del Fontego — also called di Ca’ Quartier, after the palace that the Quartieri silk merchants built there in the second half of the 14th century — a small closed courtyard where late-Gothic constructions of the 14th-15th centuries survive: arches, low porticoes, the design of a courtyard Venice that has vanished elsewhere.
