A stone’s throw from the Rialto, in the small campo (square) of the same name, the church of Santa Maria della Fava guards one of the most elegant drawing-rooms of 18th-century Venice. Its real name is Santa Maria della Consolazione: it was founded at the wish of the parishioners of San Lio, to house an image of the Madonna venerated on the wall of a neighbouring house, Ca’ Dolce, and was completed in 1500.
