Campo Santa Margherita (a campo is a Venetian square) is the drawing room of Dorsoduro and one of the widest and liveliest campi in Venice: in the morning fish stalls and greengrocers, children playing and elderly people on the benches; at sunset the students of Ca’ Foscari and the Iuav spill out among the bacari (traditional wine bars) — just as a century ago the socialist clubs and bohemian poets gathered here.
