A silent campiello of Dorsoduro, a stone’s throw from Ca’ Foscari, which owes its name to a vanished trade: the ’squelini’, or scudeleri, were the makers of bowls - plates, tankards, pots and tableware of maiolica and terracotta - and here, under your feet, they had their kilns, so much so that Sabellico, at the end of the 15th century, recorded the place in Latin as Figulorum area: the square of the potters.
