Beneath the porticoes of Campo Rialto Novo - the mercantile campo (a Venetian square) rebuilt after the great Rialto fire of 1514 - you only need to look up at the pillars to read a little atlas of the trades: roundels of Istrian stone carved with the emblems of the Arts (the guilds) that had shops and warehouses here. Beside the door of number 551, in a circle the size of a plate, a barrel is carved: the badge of the Boteri and Butiglieri.
