On the Canale della Misericordia, in the northernmost corner of Cannaregio, is mirrored the late-Gothic façade of Palazzo Pesaro Papafava, erected in the fifteenth century for the Pesaro family and passed to the Papafava — an ancient cadet branch of the Paduan Carraresi — with the marriage, celebrated in 1615, of Pesarina Pesaro and Bonifacio Papafava — who to enter the senatorial patriciate paid the Republic, engaged in the war of Candia, a full four hundred thousand ducats.
