One of the unluckiest and longest-lived convents in Venice: founded at the beginning of the 16th century beside an old oratory of the Lateran canons, the monastery of San Giovanni in Laterano - San Zuan Lateran, for the Venetians - was burnt down by a lightning strike in 1573, rose again thanks to just two nuns, paid its annual due to Rome in pounds of saffron and was suppressed in 1810.
