The short side of St Mark’s Square, opposite the Basilica, is closed off by the Ala Nuovissima, known as the Napoleonic Wing. Giuseppe Soli began building it in 1810 to a design by Giuseppe Maria Antolini. He added eight arches to the seven already there, creating a frontage almost 58 metres long, in harmony with the Procuratie.
